A chemical peel can correct or reduce superficial imperfections in your skin. There are different formulas and concentrations to meet the needs of each patient, even those with sensitive skin.
We can recommend and administer a variety of chemical peels, including brand name peels and custom formulas. Our most popular peels include:
- Obagi Blue Peel
- Salicylic Acid
- Glycolic Acid
These treatments are considered “light” chemical peels, meaning they often require no downtime and carry a low risk of side effects.
When to Consider a Chemical Peel
Chemical peels are suitable for treating problems like acne, spots, uneven skin texture, and other skin conditions. If a chemical peel is not right for you, alternatives such as laser treatment or microdermabrasion may be recommended.
Your Chemical Peel: What to Expect
A light peel typically requires about 15 minutes to perform in our office. The skin is cleansed and the peel formula is applied to the face, neck or chest. The solution takes a few minutes to penetrate through the outer layers of skin.
For best results with a chemical peel, your doctor may recommend a series of treatments. It’s also common to combine specific skin care products with your treatments, as these can provide a more complete penetration of the peel.
What Happens After a Chemical Peel?
Light peels require little or no downtime. You can usually return to your normal routine right away. As fresh skin emerges, you may experience some flaking of the outer skin layers. In most cases, no ointment is required, but you will be advised to use sun protection after your chemical peel. Side effects are uncommon, but can include redness or dryness in the skin.
