Body Contouring for Men
Body contouring can help reduce excess skin and fat, and also restore tightness and elasticity to the skin. After significant weight loss, certain areas of your body may sag and appear misshapen, masking the changes your weight loss has provided. These areas, such as the face, neck, arms, breast, abdomen, buttocks and thighs, can be easily improved through multiple procedures that will lift and sculpt your new and improved body. Known as a body lift when combined together, you can pick and choose which procedures you would like to help achieve the look you desire.
Liposuction for Men
Liposuction is a very popular procedure that sculpts the body by removing undesirable fat that has not responded to diet and exercise from areas such as the abdomen, waist, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, chin, cheeks, neck and upper arms. Local anesthesia or general anesthesia may be used, and the procedure can last anywhere from one to five hours depending on the amount of fat being removed.
Surgeons use several techniques when performing liposuction, including ultrasound-assisted lipectomy (UAL) and suction-assisted lipectomy (SAL). In both types, fluid is injected into the area to be treated. Then a tiny incision is made in as inconspicuous a place as possible, and a cannula (small tube) breaks up the fat layer and suctions it out.
Male Breast Reduction
Enlarged male breasts is a relatively common condition among men and adolescent boys. Gynecomastia affects approximately 40 to 60 percent of men. There is often no known cause for gynecomastia, although there has been some correlation with various drugs or medical conditions.
Men who feel self-conscious about their appearance are helped with breast reduction surgery. The procedure removes fat and/or glandular tissue from the breasts, and in extreme cases removes excess skin, resulting in a contoured chest that is flatter and firmer.
Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck) for Men
Abdominoplasty can flatten and reshape the abdomen and waist by removing excess fat and skin and tightening muscles. The best male candidates have pockets of fat or loose skin that haven't responded well to diet and exercise.
The tummy tuck requires approximately two to five hours and can be performed with general anesthesia or local anesthesia with a sedative. Recovery time ranges from two weeks to a few months. With a balanced diet and regular exercise, results are long-lasting. Abdominoplasty will likely leave a permanent scar stretching between the hips, although it should be low enough for underwear or a bathing suit to conceal it.
