Your Fat Grafting Procedure: What to Expect

The first stage of facial fat grafting requires liposuction under local anesthesia. The fat can be removed from your abdomen, thighs, buttocks or elsewhere. The fat is prepared and then injected into targeted areas that are wrinkled, sunken or lacking in volume.

What Happens After Facial Fat Grafting?

The main disadvantage with fat transfer is the tendency for injected fat to be absorbed by your body a short time after injection. However, when fat is successfully integrated and survives in the grafted location, the results are satisfying and often last 6 months or longer. Cosmetic surgeons have developed new techniques that promote survival of the fat graft, but absorption remains a possibility.
