Your Hair Removal Procedure: What to Expect

Laser hair removal is an outpatient office procedure. The first step, after cleansing and trimming, is a “test patch” to determine the treatment parameters. If you are nervous or have very little pain tolerance, a numbing agent may be administered. As you are in a sitting or laying position, the doctor applies energy to the unwanted hair using a handheld applicator. Heat is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle, effectively stopping hair growth. Because the treatment only targets active hair follicles, multiple sessions may be necessary to treat hair in each growth phase.

What Happens After Laser Hair Removal?

We will provide post-operative instructions to follow after your laser hair removal procedure. These steps may include cooling the treated area with an ice pack, using sunscreen and avoiding sun exposure. You may also be instructed to stop all other hair removal methods until your laser hair removal sessions are completed. Possible side effects of laser hair removal include discomfort, blistering and pigmentation changes.
