Thighplasty is a procedure that can address excess skin and fatty tissue in the upper or medial thighs. Through this surgery, the contour and shape of a patient’s inner or outer thighs can be improved.
A thigh lift is commonly performed with other procedures designed for body contouring after major weight loss.
When to Consider Thigh Lift / Thighplasty
If you have lost weight and found that loose skin has collected in your upper thighs, this procedure may be right for you. Fatty tissue and excess skin in the upper thighs can be difficult or even impossible to eradicate without surgery. Cosmetic surgeon Dr. Melanie Petro offers thigh lift surgery for healthy, non-smoking patients who want to further improve their body shape after weight loss.
Your Thigh Lift: What to Expect
Thigh lift surgery is typically performed as an outpatient procedure. Performed under local or general anesthesia, the surgery requires about 2 hours. The thighs are marked prior to surgery. Dr. Petro then makes an incision on the inner crease of the leg for removal, lifting and tightening your skin.
If your thighs contain persistent fatty tissue, liposuction may be necessary before or during the thigh lift for best results.
What Happens After Thighplasty?
Your thighs will be wrapped in gauze and tape after surgery and a compression garment will be worn for about three weeks to control swelling and promote skin contraction. Surgical drains will be placed to remove excess fluid during recovery. Dr. Petro may advise you to walk around the day after surgery and resume light exercise after about 2 weeks.
